A successful first MENA Forum for IUMI

3. June 2025

For the first time, the IUMI Executive Committee held a meeting in Egypt. Based on an invitation from IUMI’s Egypt member association, the Insurance Federation of Egypt (IFE), the EC meeting took place in Cairo on Tuesday 27 May 2025. A very pleasant dinner in the evening on the banks of the River Nile saw EC members and senior representatives of IFE strengthen their relationship and dialogue.

The very next day, IFE and IUMI staged a highly successful conference for the local market. In the opening session, senior speakers both from Egypt and IUMI gave keynote addresses emphasising the importance of marine insurance for the MENA region. Two workshops were also arranged on marine insurance business development in Africa; and ESG and sustainability in the region. The conference was attended by around 160 practitioners from Egypt and local MENA markets and helped IUMI to better understand regional circumstances and for the local participants to learn about current key IUMI issues.

In the afternoon of the same day there was an excursion to the Suez Canal where IUMI EC members took the opportunity to discuss issues of common interest with senior Suez Canal authority representatives, particularly the current maritime restrictions in the Red Sea.
