Transport of Lithium-ion batteries – CINS Guidance

8. October 2023

New methods for energy storage are being developed to reduce the environmental impact and dependency on fossil fuels. The development and use of Lithium-ion Batteries is central in this context. However, such batteries can present a risk to people, property and the environment if not handled, packaged, classified and declared properly. Particularly during transport potential risks have to be assessed and mitigated.

In this webinar various expert contributors to the CINS Guidelines on “Lithium-Ion Batteries in Containers” discuss the current safety requirements, emergency response and firefighting and appropriate risk assessment measure:

Marc Lefebvre, Head of the Cargo Division, CMA CGM
Mark Smith, Loss Prevention Senior Executive Nordics and Northern Europe, NorthStandard
Eva McKiernan, Technical Director, Jensen Hughes (session 2 only)
John Gow, Technical Director, Marine + Senior Investigator, Jensen Hughes (session 2 only)
Paul Coates, Marine Fire and Hazmat Consultant, Waves Group
