The Poseidon Principles for Marine Insurance have today published their third Annual Disclosure Report. As a framework supporting insurers, brokers, and other industry players in aligning their activities with global shipping decarbonisation efforts, the Poseidon Principles for Marine Insurance contribute to the marine insurance sector’s broader engagement with sustainability and risk considerations. The report provides insights into the scores of nine marine insurers and the support from nine affiliate members. It tracks for the first time greenhouse gas emissions against the International Maritime Organization’s revised GHG ambition for shipping to reach net zero emissions by 2050. As a Supporting Partner of the PPMI, IUMI is encouraged to see H&M insurers participate in this important initiative as it underpins the path toward decarbonisation of shipping. The signatories, representing over 25% of the total deadweight of the world fleet within the reporting scope, calculated their climate alignment scores using vessel data from 2023.
“Marine insurers play a crucial role in supporting the IMO’s global shipping industry’s transition to net zero,” said Patrizia Kern-Ferretti, Poseidon Principles for Marine Insurance chair and a member of IUMI’s ESG Working Group. “Through data-driven insights and insurers’ expertise, we are helping shipowners navigate the path toward a more sustainable future while reinforcing the industry’s commitment to responsible underwriting.”
