The annual IUMI winter meeting is the gathering of the Executive Committee and the Chairs of the Technical Committees and Forums to discuss the coming year’s activities alongside other issues on IUMI’s agenda. This year (3 & 4 February), our host was Lloyd’s Market Association who arranged meeting facilities on the top floor of Lloyd’s of London.
Attendees considered reports from the Secretariat and selected Technical Committee Chairs including updates from the Policy Forum and ESG Working Group. The IUMI Education Forum, Salvage Forum and Data & Digitalisation Forum also raised issues which were considered and debated. Added to this, a full review of the 2024 conference was discussed and enhancements decided for the Singapore event in September this year. The meeting settled on “charting opportunities in changing tides” as the common theme. Wider issues such as finances and governance were also debated.
As is usual, the meeting concluded with a press conference which attracted around 15 journalists representing maritime, shipping and insurance publications. The conference majored on free trade, protectionism and the impact of artificial intelligence and our comments were widely reported across the media.
