IUMI is delighted to invite all insurance professionals to a three-part webinar series on marine underwriters’ financial fundamentals, featuring nine experts from our member base around the world.
This series is for staff with roughly up to ten years’ experience, and for anyone else who’d like a refresher on the basics of an underwriter’s toolbox. Each webinar runs in three short segments and closes with a Q&A.
We’d encourage you to sign up for all three to get the complete picture – registration links are below.
Webinar 1: Technical Core Concepts
We start with rate tools – from pricing to client proposals – presented by IUMI’s Chief Analyst. We’ll then look at technical rate elements from the perspective of a reinsurance actuary and treaty underwriter (Mr. Tobias Gütschow, Gen Rem Germany), before covering the expense ratio which is presented by Mr. Ehab Fawzy, CFO at Tokio Marine in Egypt.
Tuesday, 25 August 2026, 13:00 – 14:00 CEST (Hamburg time)
Webinar 2: Portfolio Steering
The Portfolio Steering session will be delivered by three members of IUMI’s workforce, from the U.S. (Mr. Andrew D’Alessio, Head of US Cargo, Zurich Insurance) and Hong Kong (Mrs. Clara Yip, Head of Marine, Sompo) as well as the chair of the Facts and Figures Committee (Mr. Jun Lin, Head of Portfolio and Business Development, Gard and based in the UK) to cover the loss ratio, cycle management, and how to steer a difficult portfolio.

Webinar 3: Financial Basic Literacy
We close the series with the fundamentals supported professionals from Mexico, Italy and Germany who will elaborate on how to read a balance sheet (Armando Venegas, Senior Client Manager, Americas, Swiss Re, Mexiko), the different meanings of “premium” (Mr. Giacomo Cicogna, Head of Planning & Control, Generali, Italy), and the structure of the P&L (Mr. Tom Blumenröder, Manager Strategic Business Finance APAC Europe, AXA, Germany) – rounding out the full picture of the underwriter’s toolbox.
