The Blue Visby Solution is an initiative addressing a major carbon inefficiency in maritime operations: “Sail Fast, Then Wait” (SFTW). By replacing SFTW with a coordinated, systemic approach, the Blue Visby Solution enables ships to reduce speed and cut emissions by up to 15%, equivalent to 45 million tonnes of COâ‚‚ annually across the global tanker and bulker fleets (based on 2019 data).
The initiative brings together over 40 maritime companies such as ship owners, classification societies, ports, insurers and P&I Clubs. Based on the maritime tradition of cooperation among many stakeholders, the Blue Visby Solution aims to mitigate the effects of SFTW without interfering with port operations.
In this webinar, Haris Zografakis, Partner at the London office of Stephenson Harwood LLP and coordinator of the Blue Visby Consortium, presents the technological, operational and contractual components of the Blue Visby Solution, the project’s progress from concept to a deployed system and discusses its potential for both the existing and the future fleet.
