Over recent years, extreme weather phenomena have grown in number and strength. Due to the impact of changing climate patterns extreme weather conditions are likely to occur more regularly. The geographical regions impacted by strong rainfalls, winds and storms are growing in size while the seasons during which such phenomena occur are becoming increasingly unpredictable. This has led to a “new normal” for the maritime industry which needs to be prepare for.
In the first part of this webinar Stefan Sobolowski, Ph.D., Research Professor, NORCE & the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research, Bergen, presents developments and research findings about extreme weather conditions as well as projections for the decades to come. In the second part, Sean Dalton, Head of Marine Underwriting NA, RD-Specialty Lines-Ocean Marine, Munich Reinsurance America & IUMI Cargo Committee Chair, presents several case studies of how the marine insurance industry has already been impacted by extreme weather.
The presentations are followed by a Q&A with the audience.
