As part of this year’s celebrations to honour IUMI’s 150th anniversary, we do not only look at the future of marine underwriting and the many topics which keep IUMI members on their toes. With this special webinar, we offered a historical look at the past 150 years of marine underwriting by three longstanding marine insurance experts:

• Tom Shinya, Senior Expert – Marine Underwriting Department, Tokio Marine and member of IUMI’s Executive Committee: 1874 to 1924
• Joe Hughes, Chairman, Shipowners Claims Bureau: 1925 to1974
• Sundeep Khera, Global CUO, Hull & War, Head of Marine, AXA XL: 1975 to 2024

This 60-minute session reviewed IUMI’s 150 years’ history with all its successes and failures. Such a look back is the best way to draw up a strategy for the future and it also offers an opportunity for all those involved in marine insurance to learn from the past to adapt for the future.
