The Golden Ray was carrying about 4,200 vehicles when it lost stability and grounded as it departed the Port of Brunswick, Georgia in September 2019. In order to dismantle the wreck, the salvors have opted to cut it into large sections for removal by barge. The VB-10000 catamaran, which is equipped with twin gantry cranes, has been modified specifically for the cutting and lifting operation.
In this webinar, two expert speakers look into the most recent developments of the legal and technical aspects arising from this complex incident. First, Mauricio Garrido, President, T&T Salvage LLC, who oversees the salvage operations of the Golden Ray, outlined the unique technical solutions found to remove the wreck and further discusses some of the challenges his team faced during these operations. This was followed by Joseph G. Grasso, Partner, Wiggin and Dana, who shared insights into specific legal issues related to this case, particularly pollution and wreck removal.
The audience was invited to participate in a Q&A with the speakers.
