Risks Associated with Moving a Drilling Rig

There are three ways to move or transport a drilling rig, towed on its own buoyancy, loaded on to a towed barge or on a self-propelled heavy lift vessel. Each has a different risk profile that is influenced by the route, season, weather, sea-state, type and condition of the drilling rig.

In this webinar, Richard Palmer, Senior Consultant at London Offshore Consultants (Australia) Pty Ltd, covers key areas of risk and common mitigations along with the challenges faced when selecting the type of rig move and planning for rig move operations. The presentation ties in examples with the Joint Rig Committee’s “Rig Location & Move Code of Practice” (JR2019-005).
