In September, nearly 750 members of the IUMI family gathered in Edinburgh, Scotland for our annual conference. As far as records exist, we believe this is the largest attendance we’ve ever achieved. Delegates were treated to a wide array of expert, interesting and entertaining speakers who debated and discussed many of the issues facing marine underwriters today. Coming together under the umbrella of “strength and stability in turbulent seas”, our Technical Committees had worked hard to engage speakers from around the world and from a range of shipping, offshore, technical and related arenas.
This year’s conference was jointly hosted by Lloyd’s Market Association and the International Underwriting Association and we are indebted to Neil Roberts, Dave Matcham and their respective teams for creating an event to be remembered. Outside of the formal conference sessions, we braved the Scottish weather for the opening reception at Edinburgh Castle and we also thoroughly enjoyed the Scottish Evening held at the National Museum of Scotland.
This event was the first of four conferences to be presided over by our President, Frédéric Denèfle, who opened the event on the Monday morning and who also chaired his own workshop on Wednesday afternoon focusing on green shipping and decarbonisation technologies. Nine other workshops were held over the three days plus a special debate on diversity and inclusion.

We thank LMA, IUA, our speakers, sponsors and supporters as well as all those who attended as delegates. We invite you to join us next year in Berlin to celebrate 150 years of IUMI. More details about IUMI 2024 can be found HERE.
