Marine Insurance in Latin America is rapidly developing and is of high interest to IUMI. The regional umbrella association for marine insurers is Bogota-based ALSUM which - very much like IUMI – operates an education programme, stages events, collects local market statistics alongside a range of other services.

A few years ago, IUMI established a fruitful partnership with ALSUM which is of mutual benefit. ALSUM promotes and distributes IUMI’s work in the region in local languages and IUMI learns about local developments and maintains its networks with local markets.

During this year’s ALSUM annual conference in Santiago de Chile on 8 - 10 October, IUMI Secretary General, Lars Lange gave a presentation on IUMI’s statistics as published in September 2024; safety in shipping; decarbonization; war and crisis issues; and supply chain challenges. A panel discussion followed which included Frain Sora from The Hartford, Miami. We look forward to our ongoing and deepening cooperation with ALSUM in the future.
