Our Data and Digitalisation Forum was created a few years ago to reflect the growing importance of these new technologies to marine insurance. Our aim is to raise awareness and share information on key trends and opportunities. We feel that leading-edge technologies have the potential to transform our business, heighten its attractiveness to investors and – importantly – help recruit the next generation of underwriters. Currently, the forum comprises marine insurance professionals from many lines of business as well as IUMI Professional Partners who are active in the digital space and data analytics. 

Having made a great start, we are now planning to change the way the forum operates to become the data and digital service provider to the IUMI technical committees. Our ambition is to become fully integrated with these committees to become a sounding board and knowledge provider on all things digital that have the potential to impact their particular line of business. We feel this will make our forum much more useful and effective. There are a wide range of issues we can work on including automisation, data access, ESG data, disruption, trade document standardisation, new technologies and more. 

We are asking all our technical committee members to prioritise their needs and to nominate an ambassador to work with us. Armed with this information, we believe we can make a positive difference to the work of our committees and help future-proof the marine insurance business.
