Cold Storage Facilities – what to consider from an underwriter’s perspective

05 December 2017

The demand for food products drives the need to build logistics centres and warehouses for refrigerated or frozen food products, necessary for distribution to various points of consumption. It is estimated that cold storage warehouses are used to store approximately 200 billion dollars of refrigerated or frozen food products each year. However, the use of cold storage warehouses is not limited to food products, they are also used in the pharmaceutical, petrochemical and high-tech electronic industries.

In this webinar Mariella Dauphinee, Marine Claims Manager - Western Division at Intact Insurance Company discussed various important elements related to refrigerated warehouses:

  • The Building
  • Warehouse configuration
  • The cooling process
  • Fruit and vegetables/special consideration
  • Effects of the cold environment on equipment
